Oily Skin Treatment

Understanding Oily Skin And Finding An Oily Skin Treatment

If you're looking for an oily skin treatment chances are you are really looking for a way to control acne. I'm nearly fifty years old and have had to deal with oil skin for my entire teen and adult life. For most people, oily skin doesn't end when you become an adult.

Now that I'm older I'm enjoying one of the benefits of having oily skin and that is the moister keeps your skin from lines and wrinkles unlike our dry or normal skin friends. You'll also have a tendency to tan rather than burn in the sun but that's not why you're here are you? But you don't want to hear about that now, you have acne and you want to know what oily skin treatment work right? Let's get down to business

As I said, Oily skin acne does not stop when you enter adulthood so we have to look for a treatment that will help our skin for the long haul. You don't want to damage your skin and suffer the consequences of scars and large pores, right? The place to start is to understand why we have oily skin;

The sebaceous glands have the staring role in our type of acne. In most people these glands produce just enough oil to keep moister in the skin but for us the sebaceous glands produce too much with creates the problem of oily skin and clogged pores which result in blemishes.

The areas that seem to be affected most are the face, neck, chest, head and back, this is where the majority of these glands are located. This is why we have acne breakouts in these areas.

To eliminate or control your acne you have to eliminate or control the amount of oil on your skin. These are some of the best oily skin care tips that have helped me over the years:

First, beware of moisturizers that are designed for people with normal or dry skin. If you have oily skin you have acne and oily skin you need to look for an oil free one. The best Oily skin moisturizer will be labeled very clearly oil-free; if you don't see this don't use it. If you use an oil based moisturizer on your skin you're going to have a mess!

Next, oily skin care and acne skin both warrant washing the skin at least 2 times a day or if you can 3 times a day. The more you can keep your pores from getting clogged the less chance you'll have at acne breakouts.

Clay masks or mud masks have been proven to be effective as a skin treatment... especially for oily skin. These masks can absorb the oil on your face and eliminate the greasy feel. The darker the clay or mud the more oil it will absorb. If you have very sensitive skin, your best mud skin treatment would be from the white or lighter shade mud. All users should limit mud masks to just 2 or 3 times a week.

While the mud treatment will absorb and clean your skin of oil, it will do nothing to deep clean your pores. An acne skin care product that has benzoyl peroxide and scrubbing beads will do wonders to wash away dirt and oil but it will exfoliate the skin to make it feel fresher and clean too.

The last oily skin treatment that I've used to help my skin is steam treatment. A steam bath causes you to perspire, opening and unclogging your pores. My first experience with steam treatment was with a steam bath at a hotel that we stayed at. A steam bath is a high humidity high temperature sauna. After going in there for 10 minutes a day my face was virtually clear of all acne... at least for the weekend that I stayed at that hotel.

Adding a steam bath to ones house is cost prohibitive so we'll have to settle on one of those little face steamers instead for home use. Or you can just fill a bowl with hot water and cover your head with a towel to create the effect for free.

The last tips that I have are keeping your skin well hydrated by drinking plenty of water and maintaining a diet that consists of plenty of fruits and vegetables; which will not only ensure your body will be well nourished but it'll give you even more hydration.

So the next time you curse your Oil skin think about how much younger it's going to make you look when you get older. Make it easier on yourself, follow the tips above, create and follow a daily regimen that works for you to keep your skin looking fresh and you'll find oily skin easy to live with.
